That was the business case behind the Dole plc’s decision to adopt the MES 1002 scrubber CEMS application. Dole’s in-house ship management division, Reefership Marine Services, needed to reduce the total cost of ownership of their scrubber CEMS without compromising MARPOL compliance.

The global sulphur cap 2020
To reduce air-polluting sulphur emissions, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) introduced a global limit on sulphur content of marine fuels from 1 January 2020. Known as the Global Sulphur Cap 2020, this regulation limits sulphur levels to 0.50% m/m worldwide, with even stricter 0.10% m/m requirements in Emission Control Areas (SECAs).
To meet the Global Sulphur Cap 2020, vessels must document that their exhaust gas cleaning systems – also known as scrubbers – effectively reduce sulphur emissions. The MES 1002 is designed to make compliance simple, reliable, and cost‑efficient.
